Body piercing was also used in the 1930s by the Great Omi, a famous sideshow performer, born Horace Ridler. He wanted something more extreme than the tattoos that covered his entire face and body, so he had his septum pierced by a veterinarian and inserted a variety of ivory tusks. He also had his earlobes pierced and stretched until the holes could accommodate jewelry the size of a silver dollar.
